Someone broke into a James Street home in Blenheim yesterday afternoon, and three hours after answering the call, Chatham-Kent police made an arrest.

Police were called about 4:45 p.m. to investigate a break-in at the James Street home. Police say the thief entered through an unlocked door and took about $2,500 in jewelry.

A little more than three hours later, officers encountered a man who is well known to police riding his bike along the highway. They stopped and questioned the man in regards to the break-in, and police say the man had a watch that matched the description of one stolen from the home.

As police made the arrest, they discovered more jewelry on the man that was from the theft.

Further investigation, involving a K9 unit, resulted in officers finding even more of the stolen jewelry.

A 40-year-old Harwich Township man is charged with break and enter, theft and possession of stolen property obtained by crime.
