Bench-pressing support for hospice

When it comes to raising money for Chatham-Kent Hospice, a group of volunteers are doing some heavy lifting.

Thanks to their efforts in the recent “Lifting for Life” event, a total of $32,000 was raised for end-of-life care.

Held at Performance 360 in Chatham, Lifting for Life saw 10 individuals, aged eight to 79, bench press a pre-determined weight to raise pledges and honour loved ones.

Brock McGregor, executive director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, said community-led fundraisers are “vital” to the hospice’s goals.

“They extend our reach, deepen community connection, and directly support compassionate end-of-life care,” McGregor said in a media release. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who steps up to organize and participate.”

Lifting for Life was organized by Rick Paxton and Heather Myers. This year’s event was held in honour of Rob Pomajba, Dave Craeymmersch, Kerry Stone, Calvin Carrothers, Nell Kasper and Mary Louise Rosseel.

Since 2023, Lifting for Life, has raised $74,000 for hospice care.
