Editor: As reported in The Chatham Voice, the municipality has engaged consultants to prepare a Mobility Master Plan.
How strange then that the first chance the public has to look at the scope of the consultants’ study is being held at the Links of Kent.
Nothing against the Links of Kent; it’s a great wedding venue, but it is not served by RideCK nor, being at the end of a long driveway and across a parking lot, is it at all pedestrian friendly?
The municipally owned Bradley Centre, however, is served by RideCK’s Route’s 4 and 5, and the cost to use the venue would be ‘free’ – however it would have to be billed to the cost of the project.
Another location is the ALC on Merritt Avenue. While there would be a charge to rent the hall, it too is served by RideCK’s Route 4 and is within walking distance of many hundreds of homes.
Hopefully choosing a car friendly location doesn’t indicate that the consultants’ answer to our future mobility is to drive everywhere.
If that is the likely outcome, why have a study at all?
