Editor: The Chatham Voice’s editorial of July 30, “C-K abandons these tenants,” is correct regarding the possible eviction of tenants on Taylor Avenue.
This IS the hill we should die on.
With the epidemic of homeless people in the housing crisis in Chatham-Kent, the actions of Foundation Capital, as well as our council not opposing them, are, in my opinion, nothing less than moral turpitude, legality notwithstanding.
Where are these tenants supposed to live once they’re evicted? In tents, under our bridges?
I believe many would become homeless, greatly adding to Chatham-Kent’s problems, but certainly adding to Foundation Capital’s bottom line, which is their sole purpose, regardless of the human cost. Foundation Capital owns many rental units in Chatham-Kent; I strongly suggest the units on Taylor Avenue are the first to be affected. They should be mortally ashamed of their proposal, as should our council for not stopping them.
