Friday Chatham-Kent police briefs

Theft

What started as a shoplifting complaint ended with weapons charges.

Police were called to a Queen Street store shortly before midnight Thursday over a shoplifting complaint.

Officers quickly located and identified the suspect.

The officers realized she was wanted on another warrant for theft-related offences.

As a result, on top of theft and possession of stolen property, a 49-year-old Chatham woman is also charged with assault with a weapon, mischief, theft and possession of stolen property, all related to the other instance.

Mr. Disturbance

It appears a Blenheim man wanted to turn a restaurant entrance into a turnstile Thursday.

Police say a man had repeatedly entered and exited a Marlborough Street North restaurant in Blenheim throughout the day, causing disturbances. That behaviour escalated in the evening, prompting the call to police.

A 35-year-old Blenheim man is charged with breaching the peace.

Stop going back…

A Chatham man is up on charges after police say he keeps returning to a location where he’s banned by court conditions.

Police say they were called to a King Street West business Thursday afternoon for a report of an unwanted person.

Officers responded and found the suspect on the property. They soon learned the man was in breach of court orders that stated he was to not attend the location.

As a result, a 39-year-old Chatham man is charged with two counts of failing to comply.
