Wednesday Chatham-Kent police briefs

Wheel strikes cop car, driver charged

Here’s something you don’t see every day. An officer had a vehicle pulled over on Margaret Avenue in Wallaceburg Tuesday afternoon when their cruiser was hit by a wheel from a passing vehicle.

Police say the wheel came loose and hit the police vehicle.

The officer pivoted and spoke with the driver of one-wheel-less vehicle. Police say that officer believed the driver was impaired.

As a result, the officer administered a roadside breath test. It was a fail.

Back at police headquarters, two more breath samples resulted in fails.

A 46-year-old Wallaceburg man faces impaired driving charges.

Woman charged with theft

Two days after someone rifled through a vehicle in Chatham, police made an arrest.

On Dec. 28, police were called to a local business in downtown Chatham for a report someone had gone through a vehicle in the business’ rear parking lot.

Through the use of surveillance footage, the accused was identified.

Officers formed reasonable grounds to charge the accused with theft and possession of stolen property.

Tuesday night, police located the 28-year-old female suspect on Lacroix Street and made their arrest.
