LETTER: Help our homeless

Editor: Homelessness is our public concern. One way to tackle the homeless problem is to rent out the motels (pets allowed) available in Chatham and surrounding boroughs. I bet many rooms are empty.

With the help of a government assistance program, they will be fed, showered, and have a clean place to live in.

They should be evaluated and enrolled in an apprentice program for employment.

Let the homeless live with dignity and the strength to look forward to a better future.

  1. The motel rooms in Chatham-Kent are full with homeless and/or displaced families or individuals. The real answer to homelessness is a coordinated and collaborative effort that will include police, addiction counseling (professionals) and mental health professionals. Many of those in encampments need treatment for their addiction and/or mental health! It is not an easy fix…nor a task that any one group take it on.
