’Burg man charged with fraud

A Wallaceburg man turned himself into police Monday morning to answer to fraud charges.

The investigation landed in the lap of the Chatham-Kent police in December, as the Toronto Police Service transferred a fraud investigation to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Criminal Investigative Branch for assistance. The money involved in this fraud had been traced to a bank account at a Wallaceburg bank.  

Through investigation, Police learned the victim believed she was securing a loan through an online banking company by paying insurance. She transferred a significant amount of money to a bank account in Wallaceburg. 

The bank account owner was identified, and a warrant was issued for his arrest when he was not located.

ON Monday morning, shortly before 10:30 a.m., police say the man attended Chatham-Kent police headquarters and turned himself in.

A 61-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with fraud.  

Building superintendent threatened

A local man faces charges after police say someone threatened a building superintendent on Monday evening. 

At 7:53 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at a residential building on Fifth Street in Chatham.

Officers learned a man entered the building and threatened to harm the superintendent. The man was located, arrested, and transported to police headquarters.

A 35-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with uttering threats.

A Chatham man faces charges for allegedly threatening someone Monday in Chatham.

At 12:18 p.m., police responded to Park Street in Chatham for a threat investigation. 

Upon arrival, officers learned the man and the victim were in an argument that escalated when the man raised his fist and threatened to harm the victim.

A 25-year-old Chatham man is charged with uttering threats and assault. 

Skipped court dates

At 11:47 p.m. Monday night, officers on general patrol began investigating suspicious activity on Colborne Street in Chatham. Officers observed a man and attempted to speak with him. The man fled on a bicycle when approached by the police. 

After a short foot chase, the man was taken into custody. Officers confirmed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. 

Upon search incident to arrest, the man was found possessing financial cards not in his name. Further investigation revealed the court released the man on July 14, 2023, with conditions prohibiting him from possessing any cards with a data strip or security strip, credit card, etc or any banking document unless issued in his name. 

A 34-year-old Chatham-Kent man was charged with failing to attend court and failing to comply with a release order. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

At 7:26 a.m. Monday, police responded to a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham to check on the well-being of a woman believed to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance. 

Police attended and confirmed the woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to probation violation investigations.

A 43-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was held for a bail hearing.

At 8:28 a.m. Monday, police responded to Carolinian Place in Chatham to investigate suspicious activity. The suspicious individuals, a man and woman, were last observed walking on McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.   

Police arrived in the area and located them. Officers confirmed the woman was wanted on several warrants. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

A 33-year-old Chatham woman faces the following charges: possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft, fraud, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of unauthorized use of credit card data, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and two counts of failing to attend court after having appeared. She was held pending a bail hearing. 

At 7:34 p.m. Monday, a woman was located on King Street East in Chatham. Officers confirmed she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. 

A 32-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and faces the following charges: theft, possession of stolen property, and two counts of failing to attend court. She was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. 

Bail violation

A Wallaceburg man faces charges for failing to comply with a release order.

On Monday afternoon, police responded to Turquoise Court in Chatham for a bail violation investigation.

Upon arrival, officers learned the court released the man in September with conditions prohibiting him from communicating with the victim. Police say the victim received an email from the man and contacted police on Monday.

A 38-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with failing to comply with a release order and held pending a bail hearing. 

Theft

At 2:29 p.m., police responded to King Street in Chatham to investigate suspicious activity.

Officers attended the area and located the man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant as a result of a December 2023 theft investigation. 

During this investigation, officers discovered the man was not abiding by the address condition on his release order. 

A  38-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft, possession of stolen property and failing to comply with a release order.
