Motorcyclist clubs cop with motorcycle helmet

A Wallaceburg man is facing a host of charges after someone hit a police officer with a helmet Wednesday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police say an officer pulled a motorcycle over on Base Line in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, the officer noted several Highway Traffic Act offences being committed by the driver of the motorcycle. When the officer attempted to serve the driver his tickets and inform him that the motorcycle would be towed from the scene, police say he became combative and swung at the officer, striking him with his motorcycle helmet.

The driver then fled on foot, but was taken into custody a short distance away, police say.

A 61-year-old Wallaceburg man has been additionally charged with uttering threats, assault peace officer, resist arrest and assault peace officer with weapon.

Light fingers, not-so-light handcuffs

On Wednesday evening, Chatham-Kent police responded to a theft from a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Officers attended the area and located a woman passing the stolen items to a man.

Through investigation, police learned that the man was on conditions not to associate or communicate with the woman.

Officers also located several other stolen items in their possession from another business on St. Clair Street.

Both the man and woman were arrested.

A 42-year-old Chatham woman was charged with two counts of theft and possession of property obtained by crime, along with facilitating a breach and failing to comply with her Probation Order.

A 37-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of failure to comply with his undertaking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Public intoxication

Last night, police responded to a disturbance on Selkirk Street in Chatham.

Upon arrival, officers located an intoxicated woman who was unable to care for herself.

A 29-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters. She was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and released when sober.

Early this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious person in the area of Fourth Street in Chatham.

Officers located a man who was intoxicated and unable to care for himself.

A 64-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and released when sober.

Wednesday police briefs

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to two incidents of domestic violence in a 24-hour period Tuesday.

A 34-year-old London man is facing charges of assault and assault causing bodily harm following an incident on Catherine Street in Blenheim at around 9 a.m.

Police said the female reported being pushed to the ground and choked by her boyfriend.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters and released with a future court date.

Later that day at around 8 p.m., police arrested a 53-year-old Chatham man on intimate partner violence related charges.

The individual is facing charges of two counts of assault, uttering threats and mischief. He was taken to headquarters and released with a future court date.

Police also dealt with several incidents on July 26, involving stolen property.

A Blenheim man, 37, wanted on multiple warrants including charges of possession of stolen property above $5,000 and assault, was arrested in the vicinity of Snow Avenue.

Another man was also arrested after being found to be in possession of two stolen ATVs.

Police charged the 31-year-old Chatham man with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and he was also found to be in breach of conditions of a previous undertaking.

He was released on conditions with a future court date.

Drug charges were also laid against a 37-year-old Wallaceburg man following the execution of a search warrant on Lafontaine Street.

The man was charged with possession of suspected methamphetamine and released with a future court date.
