Theft, robbery and assault

Last night, around midnight, an observant citizen watched two men stealing from a building under renovation on Fifth Street in Chatham.

The citizen took pictures of the men in an effort to assist Chatham-Kent police.

The men confronted the citizen and assaulted him while stealing his cell phone.

Officers located one man a short distance away and he was taken into custody. A 33-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with robbery. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police continue their investigation into the identity of the second man involved.

Stolen big rig recovered, man charged

On Monday morning, police responded to the report of a stolen transport truck and trailer from a parking lot on Richmond Street in Chatham.

Through investigation, police located the trailer in a parking lot on Victoria Road in Ridgetown and the truck at a residence on Knights Line in Blenheim.

A 41-year-old St. Thomas man was arrested in the area of the stolen truck and also found to be in possession of a stolen laptop. He has been charged with theft of motor vehicle over $5000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000, theft under $5000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.

Compliance issues

Last night, police responded to a disturbance at an apartment in Wallaceburg.

Through investigation, police learned that the two were both currently on conditions not to associate or communicate with each other.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply with her release conditions. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions as he was also on conditions not to attend that address.

The man was additionally arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court to provide a DNA sample. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
