One woman attempted to flee from the cops, another got popped for shoplifting, a teen faces assault charges, while tools, a bike, e-bikes and electronics, cash and pot were stolen recently in Chatham-Kent.

Police say an officer spotted a vehicle travelling on McCready Road Tuesday morning and found the plates on the car weren’t registered to that vehicle.

The officer went to pull the vehicle over, but police say the driver sped away.

A chase ensued, police say, but the officer called it off for public safety reasons, and the vehicle sped into a neighbouring county.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a hydro pole nearby, however. Police say she wasn’t injured.

A 28-year-old Kitchener woman is charged with flight from police, as well as several Highway Traffic Act offences.

A Ridgetown teen faces charges after another teen got roughed up Tuesday in Chatham.

Police say officers responded to a disturbance call at a convenience store on McNaughton Avenue East yesterday.

The victim, a 14-year-old Chatham teen, had to be taken to hospital for medical attention.

A 14-year-old Ridgetown boy is charged with assault.

Some thief apparently has good taste when it comes to tools, as said lawbreaker made off with about $10,000 in DeWalt tools after breaking into a construction trailer on Adelaide Street in Shrewsbury late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

Around the same time period, someone made off with a mountain bike valued at about $600 in Chatham.

Police say the thief broke into a Queen Street business and took the blue CCM men’s mountain bike that belonged to an upstairs tenant.

Thieves entered an unlocked apartment on Coverdale Street sometime between Tuesday night at 11:30 a.m. and Wednesday morning at 12:45 a.m. and made off with about $3,500 worth of electronics, cash and marijuana. (Is it just us, or is it still weird to see police briefs discussing stolen marijuana?)

And thieves stole two Geo E-bikes from a residence on Sandys Street in Chatham sometime Monday night.

One is black and orange, while the other is blue and purple with a trailer hitch.

Combined, police estimate they are worth about $1,500.
