Jesse’s Walk 2013 is gearing up again to raise funds for children’s safety programs in Chatham-Kent on Oct. 19 in Blenheim’s Centennial Park.
In memory of Blenheim teen Jesse Nealey, who died after being struck by a car while riding his bike in 2011, Jesse’s Walk is held each October on the date closest to his birthday – Oct. 21. The purpose of the walk is to promote road-related safety awareness and to honour Jesse’s memory. All proceeds are donated to the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village in his name.
Walk organizers are hoping to surpass last year’s total of $3,200, organizer Rod Wellington said in a release.
“Proceeds from Jesse’s Walk make is possible for students to attend safety programs the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village at no cost,” Wellington explained. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility. We are asking people to do their part today and every day.”
There is no registration fee and everyone is welcome to participate. Pledge forms are available on-line at www.JessesWalk.org or paper copies can be found at Chatham Bowlerama on Keil Drive South in Chatham. Donations can also be made at Bowlerama or online.
