Run raises $105K, smiles galore

Participants take to the trail for the recent Run for the Kids fundraiser in Rondeau Provincial Park. This year’s run raised $105,000 for the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent.

If you organize it, they will run.

Well…run, walk, stroll and roll, that is.

We’re talking about the annual Run for the Kids fundraiser for the Children’s Treatment Centre (CTC) of Chatham-Kent.

Now four years old, the event, held annually in Rondeau Provincial Park, has raised $422,000 in support of services at the centre that are not funded through government sources, including social work, therapeutic recreation, music therapy, and specialized equipment.

Mike Genge, executive director of the CTC Foundation, said the 2026 rendition delivered wonderful numbers.

“We had another incredible turnout. We had probably 500 people show up, counting parents, kids, sponsors and volunteers,” he said. “It’s really become a great event. It’s one of the few things our families can fundraise for and participate in any way they want.”

Genge said the top three fundraising teams in this year’s $105,000 endeavour were led by children and their families.

“It was pretty amazing to see that,” he said. “We just had some incredible kids who showed up.”

The family vibe is something that appeals to Genge.

“This is our families,” he said of the CTC. “I don’t get a chance to do stuff with our families. Getting to do this is absolutely perfect.”

His joy is not the only happiness in the wake of the recent event.

“Every family we talked to said they’d be here next year. They just have so much fun,” Genge said. “There are so many things we have for the kids.”

Aside from the kids’ race, there was food and fun waiting for the younger participants after they took to the course in the 200-metre Kids Dash.

The weather co-operated this year, but moved in shortly after lunchtime.

Volunteers, sponsors, and community partners helped create an engaging atmosphere that celebrated both movement and giving back.

The sponsorship and volunteer support was appreciated, Genge said.

“Run for the Kids continues to demonstrate the incredible generosity of our community,” he said. “The support behind this event helps ensure local children and youth have access to programs and services that make a meaningful difference in their lives. We are grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s event such a success.”
