Former CKHA chair passes away

Alan Wildeman

“He was an extraordinary leader.”

Those are the words of current Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) board chair Deb Crawford for her predecessor, Alan Wildeman, who passed away recently at the age of 72.

“His contributions to the CKHA and to our broader community has left a lasting legacy,” she said. “He was not just an extraordinary leader and dedicated public servant, he was a very kind and thoughtful individual.”

Wildeman joined the hospital board eight years ago, bringing what Crawford said was a wealth of experience with him. He chaired the board through the Covid pandemic, no easy time to be in health care.

Crawford said Wildeman was an intrinsic part of the improvements now underway at the Sydenham site of the CKHA.

“He was instrumental in moving the Wallaceburg redevelopment program forward,” she said, adding he “worked closely with fellow board members, leadership of the hospital, physicians and staff.”

Crawford said he will be missed.

“He was approachable. He was thoughtful. He listened carefully, led with humility, and had kindness and respect for everyone around him,” she said.
