Bottles for Book drive returns

The Kiwanis Club of Chatham-Kent is looking to turn your bottle deposits into books for young children in Chatham-Kent.

The club’s Bottles for Books fundraiser returns June 6.

The event is earmarked to help the Kiwanis continue their partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to support early childhood literacy across the community.

Recognizing the powerful role that access to books plays in a child’s development, this initiative raises funds to provide free, high-quality books to local children,” the club said in a media release.

Residents of Chatham-Kent are encouraged to contribute by donating empty liquor, wine, and beer bottles, as well as cans. Proceeds from these donations will go directly toward putting books into the hands of children throughout the region.

“The impact of reading and imagination on a child’s life is immeasurable,” said Jennifer Paradis, membership chair for the Kiwanis Club of Chatham-Kent. “By participating in Bottles for Books, you’re not only helping to recycle and support a cleaner environment but also investing in a child’s education and future.”

On June 6, residents can return their empty bottles and cans between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at both Chatham Beer Store locations to donate to the fundraiser. Volunteers will also be on hand to accept cash donations.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, known for its commitment to early literacy, aligns closely with the Kiwanis Club’s mission to nurture young minds. Locally, the program has already made a significant impact, with 662 children enrolled and 21,519 books distributed throughout Chatham-Kent.

“Join us on June 6 as we turn empty bottles into opportunities for children,” club officials said in a media release. “Together, we can help build a brighter future – one book at a time.
