Editor: I read your editorial “We’re demanding some honesty” in the Sept. 3 Chatham Voice.
I appreciate your invitation to candidates to submit a 300-word synopsis of their campaign and what they hope to achieve, etc.
I do not agree with the question you added this year. What in the world does a person’s opinion of the American president have to do with their potential role and positive contribution as a municipal councillor?
Let’s not set up council with a bunch of ‘yes’ men/women. There’s no end to this kind of policy. Why not ask candidates where they stand on other controversial issues such as abortion or MAID?
We need competition in business as well as opposite opinions in council to have healthy debates.
Let’s stop this divisiveness and focus on the pressing needs of Chatham-Kent.
