Choker charges
A Chatham man faces assault charges after police say he choked and assaulted a woman on the weekend.
Police were called Sunday morning over a report of intimate partner violence. The officers learned a man threw items at a woman and choked her.
A 25-year-old Chatham man is charged with assault and two counts of assault causing bodily harm.
Mailbox flattened, woman arrested
A mid-afternoon encounter with a mailbox has ultimately led to impaired driving charges.
Chatham-Kent police say someone plowed over a mailbox on Baldoon Road in Chatham shortly before 3:15 p.m. Friday.
Officers investigated and learned an SUV hit the mailbox and the driver didn’t remain at the scene of the mishap. The vehicle was found after it had bounced up onto a curb and into a driveway on Balmoral Road.
The driver was spotted exiting the vehicle and showing signs of impairment, police say.
Officers arrested her and took her in for breath sampling.
A 59-year-old Chatham woman is charged with impaired driving.
Crash leads to impaired charge
A dip into the chilly waters of a roadside ditch was just the start of a bad morning for a Tilbury woman on the weekend.
Police say a vehicle went into the ditch on Grove Road near Tilbury about 2:40 a.m. Saturday morning. That ditch is about six-feet deep.
The driver and one passenger suffered minor injuries. Police say the driver showed signs of impairment, and breath samples confirmed their suspicions.
A 27-year-old Tilbury woman is charged with impaired driving.
