Standoff leads to one arrest

An overnight standoff ended peacefully in Chatham this morning with one arrest.

Chatham-Kent police say officers responded to a call shortly before 7:15 p.m. Monday evening for a situation on Pine Street in Chatham. They had received multiple 911 calls over a man’s behaviour. Police say the callers were concerned for the person’s safety, and that of others.

Officers also learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Police say the man barricade himself inside a residence. Police responded with the Emergency Response Team, a drone, crisis negotiators and onsite command oversight.

Eventually, police obtained a warrant to enter the residence. After what police say were “lengthy negotiations,” the Emergency Response Team entered the residence and made the arrest.

A 48-year-old man was arrested for mischief and on the outstanding warrant.
