
Piping mad
A Chatham man faces charges after police say he harassed people at a downtown Chatham business Wednesday afternoon.
Police were called over the report of a suspicious person on King Street West. He went to a local business and caused issues, police say, although he had been asked to leave and was trespassed from the premises on multiple occasions in the past.
The man was reported to be carrying a metal pipe or wrench and was later seen removing a knife from his backpack before putting it back.
No weapons were used in the commission of the offence, police say.
Officers located the suspect nearby and he was arrested without further incident.
A 30-year-old Chatham man is charged with mischief – obstruct, interrupt or interfere with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property; and criminal harassment.
Compliance defiance
After receiving a report of a man loitering near the Via Rail station in Chatham, officers arrested a man.
Police were called about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
The investigating officers identified the suspect and realized he had an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with his probation order, by way of failing to attend court.
A 43-year-old Tilbury man is charged with failing to comply.
Fast forward four and a half hours. Police were called for a man being where he was not wanted at 4 a.m. Thursday morning.
Officers arrived, identified the suspect and learned that just by being there, he was in violation of a court-issued order, police say.
A 37-year-old Chatham man is charged with failing to comply.
