$35K in coke seized, man charged

Police recently seized nearly $35,000 worth of cocaine after observing an interaction between two people in a parking lot.

However, it took six days for Chatham-Kent police to share that information with the media and the public.

The arrest took place Oct. 15 about 8:15 p.m. Where? All police said to the media was that it happened in a parking lot.

Officers on the scene initially tried to speak to the two people, but one fled on foot carrying a bag, police say.

The officers took up pursuit on foot, recovering the bag. Eventually, they also located the fleet-footed suspected felon.

Seized were 349 grams of cocaine, one digital scale and “a large quantity of Canadian currency.”

A 19-year-old Chatham man is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions, as police say he was found to be in breach of several of the multiple conditions of a release order.
