The theme of Labour Day weekend in Chatham-Kent seemed to be breaking and entering.

Four people faces charges in four separate incidents.

The first was Saturday evening, on Queen’s Line near Chatham. Someone was reportedly inside a fenced-in compound of a business.

Police arrived and secured all exit points, and then deployed a drone.

The drone found a man inside the compound. That led to officers trying to call out to the man to give himself up, but they received no response.

The OPP K9 unit was called in, along with the Emergency Response Team.

Two hours after getting the call, police arrested the suspect.

A 29-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with break and enter with intent.

The following afternoon, police got the call to a shed getting broken into on Woods Street in Chatham. Officers arrived just in time to spot a man fleeing over a fence.

He didn’t get far.

A 43-year-old Chatham man faces a charge of trespassing, and for failing to attend court for a prior charge.

Later that same day, police were again called to Wood Street, this time due to a passerby hearing “smashing sounds” coming from a home.

Police investigated and officers found the front door of the home as insecure as a teenager who watches too many TikTok videos.

Broken glass was also spotted on the floor.

The officers found a man inside.

A Chatham-Kent man, 60, is charged with break and enter and…wait for it…failing to comply with a release order.

Another sign of the revolving door that is our current justice system.

To complete the weekend, police were called Tuesday evening to a St. Clair Street complex near Paxton Dr.

A woman had allegedly broken into the unit by smashing a window with a brick.

As officers approached, the suspect was spotted fleeing the scene and was subsequently arrested for break and enter.
