Weapons, drugs, anger sour party

Who attends a party in mid-August wearing ski masks? Apparently, two Chatham teens do.

A Dillon Road end-of-summer party filled with teenagers took a serious turn early Saturday morning when uninvited guests showed up.

Police, who were called shortly before 2 a.m. to the bash, learned from witnesses that several people showed up wearing ski masks, brandished knives and instigated several disturbances. Witnesses also reported seeing a handgun fall out of one of the suspect’s clothing.

The party crashers reportedly learned about the gathering through social media.

After being asked by the property owner to leave, police say the suspects complied, and were gone before officers arrived on scene.

However, while police interviewed witnesses, a vehicle matching the description of what the suspects drove, returned.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle and found two young men inside.

During a search of the vehicle, the officers found a bag of packaged drugs, a scale and packaging materials.

Two Chatham teens, both 17, are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police say they continue to investigate reports from the party. Anyone with information is asked to contact Chatham-Kent police at 519-352-1234.
