Cops assaulted trying to help

A Chatham woman faces charges after Chatham-Kent police say she assaulted two of their officers Wednesday morning.

Police were called about 10:10 a.m. to a Queen Street residence over a report a woman was heard screaming.

Officers arrived, found the door unlocked, but didn’t get a response from inside after announcing their presence.

Someone inside closed the door on the officers, police say. Due to the nature of the call, the officers opted to make entry. Inside, the found a woman, who they in short order learned was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

As the officers went to assist the woman, she assaulted them, police say.

She was arrested a short time later.

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer and one of failing to attend court.

Call for aid results in impaired charge

A Wallaceburg man who called police for help early Thursday morning faces impaired driving charges.

Police say the man called them shortly after midnight after pulling over to the side of the road on Electric Line. The caller reported that he had consumed several alcoholic beverages and was feeling unwell both mentally and physically.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the driver was operating the vehicle while impaired. He was arrested and was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters for breath tests.

A 25-year-old Wallaceburg man is charged with impaired driving.
