Reshaping landscape? Charges

A man faces charges after someone worked over some municipal landscaping Tuesday.

It happened on King Street West in Chatham in front of what police are only saying was a “downtown financial institution.”

Officers arrived to see a man damaging municipal landscaping in front of the property shortly before noon. Debris from the damaged area was scattered across the adjacent public sidewalk, creating a safety hazard for pedestrians.

Police say the officers also learned he’d removed material from along the walkway.

The officers also discovered the man was involved in a series of previous unwanted incidents at the same location on May 30.

A 51-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with two counts of mischief.

Forced entry

A Chatham man is on the wrong side of the law after someone forced their way into someone else’s residence early Tuesday morning.

Police got the call shortly after midnight and officers learned that, in a case related to intimate partner violence, a man had forced entry into a home, damaging the door in the process.

The suspect, police say, had been in a relationship with the resident.

He was found in a nearby parking lot and arrested.

A 37-year-old Chatham man is charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling.
