Suspected wire thief arrested
Police arrested and charged a Chatham man for the theft of wiring that took place in mid-February on Gregory Drive East in Chatham.
At the time of the theft, the victim reported that someone had come onto the property and removed more than 40 feet of wiring.
Chatham-Kent police say someone tampered with three light poles on the property, removing wiring boxes and cutting wires.
Officers obtained surveillance footage that showed a white SUV arriving with a man and a woman, who were seen entering and exiting the vehicle within 15 minutes of being on the property, police say. The vehicles plate was plain to see in the footage.
On Thursday about 12:30 p.m., police arrested a suspect.
A 25-year-old Chatham man is charged with theft, possession of property obtained by crime, and mischief.
Harassing walk
It took a little over a week to happen, but police say a woman released from custody violated the conditions of her freedom on Thursday.
The accused was on a probation order from March 24 which stated that she not be within 100 metres of any locations where the victim lives, works or attends school.
However, police say that on Thursday evening, about 6:20 p.m., the victim was at her Colborne Street residence when she heard a female voice yelling profanities while a woman walked towards her residence.
A call to police resulted in a visit from officers, who reviewed video that police say confirmed the accused did break the 100-metre release rule.
As a result, a 50-year-old Chatham woman is charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and criminal harassment.
