The OPP West Region has wrapped up its annual Festive (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign with officers laying a total of 292 impaired driving charges over a six-week period.
The 2024-25 RIDE program, which ran between Nov. 21, 2024 and Jan. 1, 2025, saw police conduct 1,938 checks across 13 detachments in the region, according to a media release. In addition to the impaired charges, 19 warning range suspensions were issued.
The number of charges laid in this year’s campaign are lower than the 2023-24 event that saw 353 impaired charges and 55 warn-range suspensions issued following 2,246 ride checks.
The OPP say police remain committed to taking alcohol/drug impaired drivers off of Ontario roads through enforcement and public education. Citizens are advised to call 911 if they suspect someone is driving impaired by either alcohol or drugs.
