Assault charges all around

In a strange case where one woman was cut in the neck with a bottle, three men face assault charges.

Police say the scuffle took place on the evening of June 30 on Westcourt Boulevard in Wallaceburg.

Upon investigation by front-line officers and, subsequently, the Criminal Investigation Unit, it was discovered that a 19-year-old man was visiting a friend at the residence when the friend’s parents returned home.

The man engaged in disruptive behaviour and was requested to leave by the woman. During the altercation, the man broke a bottle and used a shard of glass to inflict a neck injury upon the woman, police say.

Two men who witnessed the assault intervened and struck the man multiple times in the head, causing him to lose consciousness, police say.

The woman and the man suffered life-threatening injuries and were immediately transported to hospital by EMS.

Subsequently, the woman was transferred to London Health Sciences for further treatment and has since been released.

The man was transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Due to the man’s medical condition and expected recovery time, a warrant was issued for his arrest upon his release from the hospital. On Tuesday, after being discharged from the hospital, the 19-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He was then transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing, which resulted in him being remanded into custody for another court appearance.

At the time of the incident, the 18-year-old and 30-year-old Wallaceburg men who had intervened and struck the man were also charged with aggravated assault.

Go to court!

They had their suspect, but she didn’t show up for court. Chatham-Kent police nabbed her again, but will she show for her next court date?

On March 17, 2022, police responded to a business on Nelson Street in Wallaceburg regarding a break-and-enter investigation. Following a thorough investigation, the individuals involved, a man and a woman, were identified, police say.

Subsequently, the woman was apprehended and charged with possession of stolen property. She was given a court date, which she failed to attend, resulting in a warrant for her arrest.

On Tuesday, police say officers located the 57-year-old Wallaceburg woman and arrested her. Again.

She was released with a future court date. Again.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old Chatham-Kent man is currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for the same offence. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend him.

ATV stolen, man arrested

A great deal can happen in a few hours. Take, for example a situation that developed early this morning in Tilbury.

Chatham-Kent police got the call of a theft of an ATV shortly before 12:30 a.m. from a business on Queen Street North in Tilbury.

The incident was captured by the business surveillance footage, along with footage from earlier in the day, which enabled the officer to identify the suspect, police say. The officer had recognized the suspect from prior interactions.

At 2:29 a.m., the officer located the suspect driving on Lyon Street in Tilbury. A traffic stop was initiated, and the suspect was subsequently arrested.

During the arrest, the suspect provided the officer with the stolen vehicle’s location, which was found near Thamesville.

Additionally, it was discovered that the suspect was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.

A 36-year-old Tilbury man was charged with driving while prohibited, theft over $5,000, and possessing stolen property.
