Stolen ride leads to multiple charges

A Zone Township woman and a Chatham man are facing charges after someone made off with a vehicle Monday afternoon that wasn’t theirs, according to Chatham-Kent police.

At 4:50 p.m., police responded to Park Avenue East in Chatham for vehicle theft.

Police learned the victim gave the woman a ride and briefly left her alone in the vehicle. The woman took advantage of the situation and left the area with the vehicle.  

She was found moments later with a male passenger. 

Police say the woman was suspended from driving and was bound by conditions not to associate with this man. She was arrested, and the vehicle was returned. 

A 26-year-old Zone Township woman was charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and driving while suspended. 

A 19-year-old Chatham man was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for a theft and possessing stolen property. 

Threats uttered

A Chatham woman faces charges following a heated argument Monday evening in Orchard Heights.

Police say officers responded shortly before 7:30 p.m. 

Through investigation, police learned a woman and the victim engaged in a verbal argument, and the woman commented about harming the victim.

A 37-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with two counts of uttering threats.  

Bail violation

At 10:29 p.m. Monday night, police located the man on Albert Street in Wallaceburg who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. 

The man had initially been charged with child luring. He was bound by conditions not to associate with anyone under 18 years unless an adult was present and knew the charges, and he must not control any computer or device capable of assessing the internet.

Through investigation and a search incident to arrest, police say they learned he breached both conditions. 

A 46-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged additionally with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
