Theft, fail to comply charges for Chatham man

A Chatham was man arrested for theft and failing to comply with his release conditions.

On July 27, 2015, the man was released from custody with several conditions.  Two of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and not consume alcohol.

Then yesterday afternoon, police responded to a theft complaint on Park Street in Chatham.  The homeowner reported that sometime overnight between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., someone stole her patio set consisting of a glass table and four chairs.

Through investigation, police obtained video surveillance footage from the area and the man responsible was identified.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. police located the man and he was arrested.  While searching him, an odour of alsohol was detected on his breath.

A 49-year-old man of Queen Street in Chatham was charged with theft under $5000 and two counts of failing to comply.  He was released pending a future court date of May 13.
