A simple text message led to charges yesterday.

Police say about 5 p.m., a man and his girlfriend began arguing over a text message she had received.

The argument escalated, and when the woman tried to use her cell phone, police say the man grabbed it and smashed it, before heading into the kitchen, pulling out a knife and holding it to her throat.

A citizen called in a noise complaint, alerting police.

A 19-year-old Harwich Township man is charged with weapons dangerous, assault with a weapon and mischief.
