A water-filled sinkhole in the eastbound lanes of Grand Avenue has cut traffic to one lane in each direction near St. Clair Street in Chatham.

Crews say there is a broken watermain under the road somewhere and the sinkhole is only going to get worse until they track down where the waterline is ruptured. The hole appears to be about two-feet deep and at least that size in diameter.

Both eastbound lanes, just east of St. Clair, are closed near the sinkhole, as traffic is being rerouted into one of the westbound lanes. Municipal officials say the lane restrictions will be in effect until further notice.

Meanwhile, a sinkhole on Amelia Street near Victoria Avenue continues to keep a portion of that street closed. Public Works crews were on scene Tuesday filling the hole with gravel, but further repairs are needed.
