Assault, resisting arrest
A local man faces charges after police say officers had to threaten to tase the man Saturday night to get him to comply with their requests.
It began late Saturday evening at a residence in Dresden. Police were called due to a report of a family dispute.
Officers went to arrest a man for mischief, and police say the man raised an object in a threatening manner to the officers.
They pulled out their Tasers and demanded he comply, police say, which he did.
A 37-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and resisting arrest.
New-fashioned car chase
A Leamington man faces charges after a driver eluded police in Tilbury on the weekend.
Officers spotted a speeding vehicle on Wheatley Road Sunday night about 10:30 p.m. and gave chase…briefly.
The vehicle failed to stop, and in the interest of public safety, the officers broke off the pursuit.
But they weren’t done.
Through the use of CCTV footage, officers were able to identify both the vehicle and the driver, police say. They later located the suspect, a 24-year-old Leamington man, at a residence in Leamington.
He is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stunt driving and failing to stop at a red light.
Drug pedalling charges
It began with a routine traffic stop and ended with drug trafficking charges for a Chatham man.
On Saturday, about 1 a.m., an officer spotted a vehicle with a headlight out. The officer pulled over the vehicle at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Lacroix Street.
As police spoke to the driver, they realized he did not have a valid driver’s licence. A search of the vehicle led them to find several drug-related items.
As a result, a Chatham man, 28, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. Police seized 7.6 grams of cocaine.
