Chatham-Kent cops ask the public to help them track down a vehicle that forced a bus full of school kids into a farmer’s field this morning in Romney Township north of Wheatley.
Police say a bus was forced off the road on Campbell Road about 8:30 a.m. this morning near Concession Line 6 by an oncoming escorted wide load transport. The bus slid off the road because of a soft gravel shoulder. To avoid rolling over, the driver managed to steer the bus into a farmer’s field.
Police say the bus was loaded with kids from Old Colony School Board. One child was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Damage to the bus is estimated at $2,000.
Police want to track down the driver of the transport as he or she failed to stop. The truck was dark in colour and was last seen hauling a flatbed trailer carrying large steel frames.
Anyone with information is asked to contact const. Bill Bergsma at 519-436-6600, ext. 81394 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
