Assault with a vehicle

A Chatham man faces assault charges after an e-bike enthusiast was rammed by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police say the victim, a Chatham man, 61, was sitting on an e-bike in a front yard on Princess Street when he was hit by a vehicle.

A Chatham man, 40, faces charges of assault and dangerous driving.

Camera spitter arrested
A man who allegedly attempted to drown a doorbell camera in Chatham is facing mischief charges.

Police say the incident took place on the evening of May 14 on Harvey Street. Video footage, police say, shows a man spitting on a doorbell camera, and also pouring liquid on it.

Officers reviewed the footage and confirmed the suspect’s identity as a 54-year-old male from Chatham.
Officers attended the residence of the accused, police say, but the individual refused to the exit the home, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Five days later, police tracked down their suspect and made the arrest.

He is charged with mischief.

An attempt to purchase a vehicle wound up leading to charges against a woman on the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, Chatham-Kent police received a call of a fraud in progress involving the purchase of a vehicle.

Police say officers were alerted after a fraud flag was triggered in a national database, indicating suspected identify theft.

Officers determined that a female suspect was trying to buy the vehicle using someone else’s identity, police say.

A Niagara woman, 26, is charged with identity fraud, fraud and false pretense.

Two people face charges after Chatham-Kent police followed up on a theft report on Friday.

Police were called to a St. Clair Street business in Chatham for a report of two individuals stealing from the business.
Officers arrived on scene, spotted and arrested the two male suspects.

During the arrest, police seized more than 10 identity cards, along with a similar number of credit cards and gift cards, all believed to belong to the individuals.
The men, a 31-year-old Brampton man and a 32-year-old man of no fixed address, are charged with theft, possession of stolen property, possession of an identity document and possession of an illicit substance.

They were held for bail and, police say, are also wanted by other police services for similar offences across the province.
