Chatham-Kent police once again have a man in custody in connection to the theft of lottery tickets in Wheatley more than a year ago.

Windsor police arrested the man Thursday on outstanding warrants and failing to attend court. They transferred him to C-K police.

Those stem from Feb. 28, 2024, when someone walked into a Wheatley business wearing a grey hoodie, ski mask and ball cap. He walked up to the counter and began taking lottery tickets.

Police say when an employee said he needed to show ID to purchase the tickets, which also needed to be scanned, the man said he did not have any ID on him, and proceeded to rip the OLG lottery display off the counter and left the store.

More than $1,000 in lottery tickets were taken.

Surveillance footage led police to identify the suspect.

A 31-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft, possession of stolen property and disguise with intent.

However, he never showed for his day in court last April.

That led to a December arrest and a new court date, which was Jan. 27. Police say he did not show up for that one either.

And now, he’s back behind bars awaiting another bail hearing.
