Stolen truck recovered; man charged

Monday morning began badly for a Ridgetown man, as he is facing multiple charges after someone tried to evade police in a stolen vehicle.

Chatham-Kent police say an officer tried to pull over a pickup truck shortly after midnight on Selton Line south of Thamesville.

The driver tried to get away, but police say the truck, which was reported stolen, eventually wound up in a ditch on Selton Line.

A 29-year-old Ridgetown man faces charges of possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and flight from police.

The man also had warrants for failing to comply with release order and breach of conditional sentence order.

Ditch dip for driver

Emergency crews waded into a water-filled ditch on the weekend to rescue a driver.

Police say the vehicle wound up in the ditch on Queen’s Line near Drake Road Saturday evening.

A westbound vehicle drove off the roadway into the south ditch of Queens Line. Chatham-Kent police officers who were the first on the scene, entered the water and assisted the driver to safety.

Queens Line was temporarily closed while tow trucks removed the vehicle from the water.

The driver was unharmed in this incident.

Theft, possession charges

A shopper that skipped the checkout line at Walmart on the weekend is facing charges.

Police say a woman left the store on St. Clair Street in Chatham with a cart full of groceries. Officers found their suspect and made an arrest.

Arrest in Dresden

A Windsor man is facing charges after someone forced their way into an apartment in Dresden on Sunday morning.

Police attended the St. George Street address, and slapped on the cuffs.

A 25-year-old Windsor man, whom police say was on conditions to not be at that address or to be near the woman who lived there, is charged with breaking and entering, two counts of mischief, and failing to comply with a release order.
