Pedestrian hit near Wallaceburg

A construction worker had to be taken to hospital Monday after being clipped by a passing vehicle.

The driver now faces charges.

The incident took place near Wallaceburg Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to a report of an accident on Dufferin Avenue at the intersection of St. Clair Parkway west of Wallaceburg about 2:40 p.m. Monday. The collision involved a pickup truck and a pedestrian.

The pickup truck was driving westbound on Dufferin Avenue, through the marked construction zone, when the right mirror hit a worker and pylons, police say. The vehicle continued driving westbound.

With the assistance of off-duty and on-duty Walpole Island police, the driver was identified.

The man was arrested at his residence by Walpole Island Police and turned over to Chatham-Kent Police.

A 71-year-old Walpole Island man is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and failing to stop at an accident cause bodily harm.

The construction worker was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
