The Chatham-Kent police recently let the computers do the work, resulting in a local man facing nine charges.
On Monday about 5:20 p.m., the Automatic License Plate Reader sounded off in a police cruiser on Park Avenue East in Chatham.
The device said the driver of the vehicle had a suspended licence. As a result, the officer pulled over the vehicle.
A 42-year-old Chatham man is charged with eight counts of operating a vehicle while prohibited and one count of failing to comply with a release order.
Asleep at the wheel
A Chatham man faces impaired driving charges after being discovered passed out in a vehicle Monday.
Chatham-Kent police say they were called shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday about a possible impaired driver in a parking lot on Talbot Street West in Blenheim.
Police located the vehicle and driver who was found unconscious in the vehicle. The man eventually woke up for police and a standard field sobriety test was conducted. Police determined the man was impaired by drug.
A 38-year-old Chatham man was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and failure or refusal to comply with demand.
Warrant arrest
Chatham-Kent police scooped up a local man for outstanding warrants Monday.
Officers responded that morning to Riverview Drive in Chatham for a call of unwanted parties.
When the officers got there, they spotted someone known to them from previous occurrences.
Police learned the man was wanted on outstanding warrants for the charges of break and enter with intent, possession of break-in instruments, as well as three counts of fail to attend court, fail to comply and obstruct police.
A 45-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and held pending a bail hearing.
Light fingers; theft charge
A Chatham woman faces theft charges after someone walked away with merchandise from a Grand Avenue East store in Chatham on Saturday.
Police say the theft occurred just after 7 a.m. A woman was observed on video surveillance taking multiple outdoor items without permission.
Through investigation police confirmed the identity in the video surveillance to be the accused, who is known to police from previous occurrences.
On Tuesday morning, shortly before 1:20 a.m., officers located their suspect.
A 32-year-old Chatham woman is charged with two counts of theft.
