Threats uttered, man charged

A Chatham man faces charges after Chatham-Kent police say he threatened a woman Wednesday afternoon.

At 4:52 p.m., police responded to Park Avenue East in Chatham for a domestic disturbance. 

Through investigation, police learned the man and the woman engaged in a verbal argument, resulting in the woman leaving the residence. 

The man contacted the woman later and threatened to harm her, police say. The police also learned the man had threatened to cause damage to the woman’s vehicle and other personal property during other recent arguments. 

A 29-year-old Chatham man was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and three counts of uttering threats to cause property damage.   

Warrant arrests 

Chatham-Kent police say officers found a man wanted for not following conditions of his probation order.

The warrant was issued for the man’s arrest Feb. 13. Nine days later, officers spotted him on King Street East in Chatham.

A 51-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with failing to comply with a probation order and released with conditions and a future court date.  

Early Thursday morning at 12:39 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Base Line in Zone Township. 

Police learned the woman occupant was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. 

A  26-year-old Chatham woman was arrested.
