Two serious crashes on weekend in C-K

Two bad accidents less than 12 hours apart in Chatham-Kent on the weekend have left five people in out-of-town hospitals in serious condition.

It began Saturday evening, shortly after 8 p.m. Police say an eastbound motorcycle on King Street East for some reason veered into the path of a westbound vehicle near Prince Street.

The motorcyclist, a 39-year-old Chatham man, was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to hospital here, but was later transferred to Windsor.

The driver of the automobile was not hurt, police report.

The next morning, about 6:45 a.m., police were called to the intersection of Kent Bridge Road and Fairview Line where a vehicle slammed into a ditch.

Police say a vehicle with eight occupants was heading east on Fairview Line when it didn’t stop at the T intersection with Kent Bridge Road, and hit the ditch on the east side of the road.

Four people, including the driver, a 31-year-old Chatham man, were taken to hospital in Chatham to be treated for minor injuries.

Three male passengers, aged 38, 20, 32, were transferred to hospital in London via air ambulance, all suffering serious injuries.

Another male passenger, 41, was airlifted to Windsor with serious injuries.
