Hydro pole chop shop

Don’t stay out late, and whatever you do, don’t go onto the Entegrus property.

That was the message from the courts to a local man, according to Chatham-Kent police, but it was a message he apparently didn’t hear.

Yesterday morning around 10 a.m., Chatham-Kent police responded to the report of a suspicious man cutting metal pipes outside a residence on Edgar Street in Chatham.

Officers located the man, and through investigation learned that just before 5 a.m. he had forced his way into Entegrus’ fenced compound on Queen Street and stole four aluminum hydro poles.

A 33-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with break and enter, being in possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions by disobeying his curfew and attending Entegrus property.

He has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.

Damage to the fence was estimated at $400. Total value of the theft was approximately $8,800.

Failing to comply

Last night, police responded to a family dispute at a residence in Wheatley.

Through investigation, police learned that the man attended a family member’s home, regardless of being on conditions not to.

A 30-year-old Leamington man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Impaired charges after collisions

Last night, shortly after 6:30 p.m. officers responded to a collision in the parking lot of a business on King Street in Chatham, where the man responsible for hitting a parked vehicle left the scene, police say.

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol, and he was arrested at his residence.

The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 61-year-old Chatham man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

Around 11 p.m. last night, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Rose Avenue in Tilbury, where the man lost control of his truck, left the roadway and struck a tree and light pole.

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol, and he was arrested.

The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

A 21-year-old Tilbury man is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit, refusing to provide a suitable sample of his breath and failing to comply with his Probation Order by consuming alcohol.

Around midnight, police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Gosnell Line, where the woman lost control of her car, left the roadway, went into the ditch and struck a metal culvert.

Through investigation, police believed the woman was driving while under the influence of alcohol, and she was arrested.

The woman was transported to the Chatham-Kent OPP Detachment for breath tests.

A 34-year-old Glencoe woman is charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

Vehicle thefts

As previously reported, on Monday around 5 p.m. someone stole a burgundy 2009 Ford Edge that was left unattended in the Circle K Convenience parking lot.

Yesterday morning, the vehicle was recovered by OPP in Oxford County.

Sometime early yesterday morning, someone stole a grey 2006 GMC Sierra pick-up truck from a residence on Florence Road, just outside of Thamesville.

The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates YF4 121.
