Assaultive behaviour

A man faces a slew of charges after someone at first stood in front of a moving cement truck and later tried to take a police officer’s Taser.

According to Chatham-Kent police, the man intentionally stood in front of a cement truck that was driving down Park Avenue West Tuesday morning. The driver had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the guy.

Police say the driver of the cement truck pulled into a nearby parking lot and confronted the man about his dangerous behaviour. At this time, the man spit in the driver’s face.

The man walked away and then punched another person standing nearby, police say.

As officers arrived, the man provided the cops with a false name.

Once his true identity was revealed, police say the man threw his mask into the driver’s seat of a police cruiser and attempted to reach for an officer’s Taser.

A 34-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with obstruct police, assault police, attempt to disarm a police officer, and two counts of assault. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded until Nov. 10.

On Halloween, a woman was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that she was not to communicate with a specific Chatham man.

But, on Tuesday morning, just nine days after getting out of custody, police say officers located the pair together at a business in Chatham.

The woman was arrested, and upon being searched was found to be in possession of stolen property from a local pharmacy along with suspected methamphetamine and psilocybin. She was also arrested on outstanding warrants.

A 29-year-old Chatham woman is charged with failing to comply with her release conditions, theft, possession of property obtained by a crime, and two counts of drug possession. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded until Nov. 15.

Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that during an argument, the man threatened the woman, and the woman assaulted the man.

A 34-year-old Chatham man is charged with uttering threats.

A 30-year-old Chatham woman is charged with assault.
