Resisting arrest 

Yesterday, Chatham-Kent police located a man in Chatham who was wanted in connection with a mischief investigation at an apartment complex in Ridgetown, where he keyed a vehicle, causing about $5,000 damage.

As the officers placed the man under arrest, police say he broke free after attempting to elbow an officer in the face. The man fled on foot, however was taken into custody a short distance away.

A 23-year-old Ridgetown man has been charged with mischief, uttering threats, resist arrest and escape lawful custody.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Suspicious vehicle

Yesterday, police became aware of a video circulating on social media about a suspicious vehicle in Chatham.

Through investigation, officers learned that on Sunday between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., a lone woman was walking on Jeffrey Street when she was approached by two men in a burgundy van asking for directions.

The men then asked the woman for her phone number and offered her money if she spoke with them.

Police say the woman refused and continue walking.

At no time, did the men exit the vehicle or make physical contact with the woman.

The driver was last seen wearing an orange shirt.  The passenger was wearing a black T-shirt. Both men were non-white and spoke with an accent.

Neighbour dispute leads to charges

Last night, police responded to a mischief complaint at a residence in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned that the man broke two windows of his neighbour’s home with a slingshot.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000.

A 33-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with mischief.

Shoplifting

Yesterday morning, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Real Canadian Superstore in Chatham.

Officers located the man and upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of items stolen from Shoppers Drug Mart and suspected psilocybin.

David Hill, 37, of Chatham, is charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and drug possession.

Warrant arrest

Last night, police located a man in Blenheim who was wanted for breaching conditions of his Probation Order.

Kyle Lockyer, 30, of Bothwell, was arrested.

Speed traps 

Chatham-Kent police have been out across the municipality in recent weeks, throwing up speed traps and catching unsuspecting lead foots in their webs.

Yesterday, members of the Traffic Unit conducted speed enforcement on Pain Court Line, Fairview Line, McNaughton Avenue and Longwoods Road.

Sixty-eight vehicles were stopped and charged with speeding.
