Help police stop the firebugs

Someone lit up an outdoor toilet and then old furniture in Wallaceburg this morning.

Chatham-Kent police say just before 8 a.m., emergency crews responded to the report of a port-a-john on fire near Steinhoff Park on Mary Street in Wallaceburg. Total damage was estimated at $1,000.

Just a few minutes later, emergency crews were called to another fire on Thomas Avenue near an apartment building involving discarded furniture next to a garbage dumpster.

This fire was quickly extinguished, police say, but a vehicle next to the dumpster sustained heat damage. Total damage was estimated at $3,000.

Both fires have been deemed suspicious. Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Rod Louzon at rodl@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 ext. 87236. Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
