Erieau fire update

A post-mortem examination will take place today in London of a woman who died in a house fire in Erieau Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews arrived about 2 a.m. Tuesday to a Kerr Avenue home to find it engulfed in flames.

Police say the body of a 73-year-old woman was found inside.

The Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating the cause.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Drug bust

Last night, members of the Intelligence Section with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response Team, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence in Chatham.

Approximately $28,000 worth of suspected methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine was seized. Officers also located stolen property in the home.

Brandon Hubbarth, 30, of Chatham, is charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime and three counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.

Joel Benoit, 27, of Chatham, is charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime and three counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking.

Man arrested off Wanted List

Yesterday morning, a man wanted in connection with a police pursuit that was terminated in Chatham earlier this month attended police headquarters and turned himself in.

Matthew Humphrey, 33, of Chatham, was arrested and charged with disobeying a stop sign, flight from police, two counts of driving while under suspension and four counts of driving while prohibited.

Theft of tools

Sometime between Monday night at 9:45 p.m. and Tuesday morning at 5:30 a.m. someone entered an unlocked garage on McNaughton Avenue West and stole the following tools:

–       Porter-Cable 18 gauge pneumatic brad nailer;

–       MasterCraft 164 piece socket set;

–       DeWalt 84 piece socket set;

–       DeWalt 18 gauge nailer;

–       DeWalt impact screw gun;

–       DeWalt circular saw;

–       Bosch belt sander;

–       4 DeWalt batteries;

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1,500.

B&E in Chatham

Shortly after 4:00 a.m. this morning, police responded to an alarm at Belfour Property Restoration on Hart Place. Upon arrival, officers observed a broken window.

Through investigation, police learned that approximately $800 worth of property was stolen. Damage to the window has been estimated at $500.

Books and Badges
