Truck thieves caught in the act

Chatham-Kent police caught truck thieves in the act yesterday, solving two cases.

On Sunday afternoon, a silver 2007 GMC Sierra pick-up truck and trailer were stolen from a residence in Mitchell’s Bay.  The trailer was recovered on Walpole Island and returned to the owner.  The truck was located by Walpole Island Police upside down in a ditch.

Yesterday afternoon, a 2000 Dodge truck and trailer were stolen from the area of Water Tower Park in Wallaceburg.  Police were immediately contacted and an officer on general patrol observed the truck and trailer travelling westbound on Dufferin Avenue.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and four people were found inside the stolen truck.  All were arrested.  Police learned that the two young offenders were also responsible for the theft in Mitchell’s Bay.

A 15-year-old male youth from Brights Grove has been charged with two counts of theft over $5000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000.

A 16-year-old male youth from Chatham-Kent has been charged with two counts of theft over $5000, two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000 and failing to comply with his release conditions.

A 21-year-old Walpole Island man has been charged with theft over $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000 and breach of probation.

A 31-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with theft over $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000.

All four people have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
