Chatham-Kent police have laid additional charges against a Blenheim man who broke into a Ninth Line home carrying a shotgun Tuesday morning.

The man entered the home and awoke the homeowners, known to him, while carrying a sawed-off shotgun.  An argument began resulting in the man grabbing an aluminum bat and shattering the glass patio doors.  No one was injured and the man fled the area in his Ford Escape, almost hitting one of the homeowners outside. Shortly after, police located the man and he was arrested.  The 49-year-old Blenheim man was charged with break and enter and held in custody.

Police have since learned that the man was in a previous relationship with one of the homeowners and there was an earlier incident where he damaged her vehicle.  Police executed a search warrant on the man’s home and vehicle, finding the barrel and wooden stock of the sawed-off shotgun and the aluminum baseball bat, ammunition, two pellet guns, a .22 calibre rifle and 303 rifle.

Police have now additionally charged the man with numerous weapon and firearm related charges along with two counts of mischief under $5000 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.  He remains in custody pending a bail hearing this morning.
