A week after the new Chatham Target store opened on July 16, the Thames Lea Plaza parking lot is still full of cars with eager shoppers who want to see for themselves what all the fuss is about.
Sarah Detamble was one of those shoppers visiting for the first time.
“I was looking mostly at the baby stock,” said Detamble, who was there with her two young children.
While she said she found the selection small, she enjoyed the experience.
Usually a Walmart shopper, Detamble says Target is closer to where she lives, offering convenience.
“I’ll come back sometime and look at the clothes for kids when I’m alone,” said Detamble.
Twenty-six year-old shopper Tiffanie McIntee had mixed reviews saying she found her shopping cart with the two-seater addition for children made it hard for her to push it down certain aisles.
McIntee also said there were some shelves in the store that were fairly empty, including where the barbecues were kept.
“It was a little bit confusing because they were bare,” she said.
However, McIntee said she did find some interesting items.
“They had some new foods I haven’t seen to buy,” she said.
Overall, she described her trip to the new store as not too bad, but will likely continue to make Walmart and Ardene’s her primary source for items such as swim suits, which she believes are a bit more affordable.
“I’ll come back in September again to see what is in there and give it another chance,” she said.
