A cooking fire caused about $5,000 damage at a rooming house on Emma Street in Chatham Sunday night.
Chatham-Kent fire officials say personnel from both Chatham stations responded to 179 Emma St. and arrived to see smoke billowing out of second-storey windows.
Firefighters quickly doused the flames.
Officials say most of the damage was caused by smoke.
