ELECTION ’26: Lauren Anderson, mayor

Why are you running?

I’m running because I believe Chatham-Kent is capable of more. I want a municipality that stops accepting “that’s the way we’ve always done it” and starts pursuing solutions, partnerships and opportunities with urgency. I’m running to build on the relationships I’ve developed at the provincial level and bring investment, jobs and opportunity home to Chatham-Kent.

What are the two biggest issues for the next term of council?

Economic growth and community safety. We need to attract new industry, support small business, create jobs at every education level and position Chatham-Kent to benefit from major regional opportunities.

At the same time, residents deserve to feel safe in their communities. Homelessness, addiction and mental health require municipal leadership and collaboration with police, EMS, health care, community organizations and the provincial and federal governments.

What do you hope to achieve if elected?

I want to make Chatham-Kent a municipality that is growing rather than simply managing decline. That means getting infrastructure built, accelerating housing, attracting investment, supporting agriculture and small business, and creating stronger relationships with senior levels of government.

Most importantly, I want residents to see measurable results and know their municipality is working for them.

What skills and experience do you bring?

I bring 16 years’ experience as a nurse and four years as a municipal councillor. I understand frontline service, leadership, accountability, budgets and the realities facing our communities. I also bring relationships at the provincial level and the ability to build partnerships and advocate for Chatham-Kent.

I don’t believe leadership should be reduced to whether we personally like or dislike a political leader. I respect the office, the democratic process and the importance of maintaining productive relationships with elected leaders at every level. As mayor, my responsibility would be to work respectfully with political leaders, regardless of party or personality, so that it benefits Chatham-Kent and its residents.

Are you a fan of Donald Trump? No.
